Aryz: Vestigio

From May 22th to June 30th it is possible to visit “Vestigio”, the exhibition of the artist Octavi Arrizabalaga, aka Aryz, at Villa Pellé Gallery in Prague. The artist's first exhibition in the Czech Republic presents a selection from the current Vestigio series, which gradually comes to life from 2021. One of the indisputable aspects of the artist's work is his tireless desire to experiment and develop his own artistic expression through an expressive pictorial style and a kind of fragmentation of body parts. He depicts through his paintings a dynamic movement on the surfaces of canvases of various sizes, layering oil paints and assembling and overpainting particular parts of the paintings. Parts of limbs, anatomical discovery of body layers, as well as direct quotations from historical paintings represent the remains that serve as the main compositional tool. It captures the eye with captivating colors, simple compositions and famous shapes that gradually shatter into disturbing fragments of the reality depicted. Animals or figures, anchored in unspecified natural scenarios, appear in border situations existing between tradition and non-conformism, history and future.
