Vhils: Exposição Subaquática

The EDP Art Reef project combines the creative power of Alexandre Farto, aka Vhils, with the creative power of nature. The art was hired to raise public awareness of ocean defense by placing an underwater exhibition twelve meters deep off the coast of Albufeira (Portugal). The thirteen pieces in this installation were created with materials built from repurposed parts of old power stations, owned by EDP, that in the past created electricity to heat and light homes. The artist transformed these materials into works of art and, in turn, nature will transform the sculptures into an ecosystem for marine life over time.

This installation is a dialogue between art and nature, following the principle of creating new materials, repurposing them, being a recurring feature of Vhils' works, as he reinterprets them and gives them an artistic meaning and a new role and function.
